Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in making a difference with The Home?

As a volunteer with The Home for Little Wanderers, you have the opportunity to help create better, brighter futures for kids and their families. Whether you work directly with our youth or “behind the scenes,” your contribution can leave a lasting impact on those we serve.

The types of volunteer opportunities at The Home vary widely, from leading weekly activities at one of our programs to providing administrative support for the organization.

Types of Volunteer Positions

Direct Care: Works with kids and families in our programs and in the community. A few examples of direct care volunteers are: tutors, classroom assistants and activity coordinators.

Group Volunteer (Direct Care and Ongoing): Groups who want to make an extended commitment come to programs and spend time with our youth, arrange activities and events.

Administrative: Supports our programs with tasks such as: helping organize, prepare supplies, data collection/management, and additional administrative projects.

Mentors: A mentor is an interested and committed adult who, ideally, makes a weekly commitment to an identified youth, over the course of a year or more. Mentors serve as a source of support, guidance and friendship to children and teens who often do not have positive adult connections in their lives. Our mentors are encouraged to participate in community activities with their mentees, teach youth skills that will benefit them in the future and introduce them to new experiences when appropriate. Some of the activities our kids enjoy include bike riding, seeing a movie, going to a baseball game or a show, grabbing a slice of pizza, reading a book together, fishing, ice skating or just taking a drive. Many of our older kids would benefit from help learning to take public transportation, finding a part-time job, or exploring continued education opportunities as well.

Do you have what it takes to be a mentor?

  • Are you patient, creative, flexible, and reliable?
  • Do you enjoy spending time with young people?
  • Can you be supportive and encouraging?
  • Are you accepting, responsive, and open to new experiences?

Please note that this is an intensive position, with limited opportunities available.
