At The Home for Little Wanderers, philanthropy is a part of our community’s culture. The Better, Brighter Futures Leadership Giving Society recognizes our loyal and dedicated individual donors who make annual gifts of $1,000 or more. Donors at this level represent the foundation of The Home’s philanthropy, as they are responsible for about 90% of our philanthropic support. These members help sustain and grow the critical services that support the 15,000 children and family members that we serve each year.
Like the two centuries of donors before, The Home is ever appreciative of all the good that our Better, Brighter Futures Leadership Giving Society donors do to help us achieve our mission of helping children and their families build permanent, positive change. Their generosity improves the well-being of thousands of youth every year by creating a stronger, healthier community.
The Huntington Circle honors The Home’s headquarters on Huntington Avenue, established in 1915. The building was part of The Home’s mission for nearly 100 years.
The Knight Circle honors one of The Home’s first headquarters in 1865, The Knight Building in Jamaica Plain.
The Longwood Circle honors one of The Home’s headquarters in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area in 1915.
The Fannie Merrill Circle honors Fannie Merrill, a nine-year-old girl who collected pennies to support families in need in the mid 1800s. Fannie’s pocket change was the foundation of social change – the formation of The Children’s Mission, which was later folded into The Home’s mission.
The North End Mission Circle honors the North End Mission, a childcare agency and Sunday school that was part of The Home, established in 1867.
The Abigail Adams Circle honors First Lady and Massachusetts native Abigail Adams, a founder of The Home for Little Wanderers.
The Arborway Circle honors The Home’s first presence in the Boston community. The Arborway, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in the 1890s as a carriage road from Boston Common to downtown Boston, played host to the original road to The Home.
Each year, hundreds of donors demonstrate their commitment to our children and families with their consecutive years of giving to The Home. These donors, who are part of the 1799 Society, named in honor of our first year of operation and the longevity of The Home’s impact, have made a gift of any amount for ten or more consecutive years to The Home.
Edna Betts Talbot was one of the premier patrons of The Home in the twentieth century. In 1963, Edna, a member of a prominent and historical Massachusetts family, chose The Home to be the sole beneficiary of her trust. For more than 50 years, monthly distributions from the Edna Betts Talbot Trust have helped The Home bring about permanent, positive change to children in our communities. Edna Betts Talbot made a gift and a plan to better children’s lives for generations.
To commemorate her enduring legacy and the significance of planned giving, The Home has launched a Planned Giving Society in her honor. Since her lifetime, The Home has tripled its programs and honed its approach to help more kids sooner.
When you leave The Home in your will or designate the organization as a beneficiary, you give the gift of tomorrow to those we serve.
